Adults with Mental Illness
People who have mental illness are vulnerable and have protections. You can report suspected or known abuse of a person who has a mental illness to Multnomah County Behavioral Health Adult Protective Services by calling 503-988-8170, Monday through Friday, 8 am to 5 pm. Or email us at bhd.aps@multco.us.
If the case requires an investigation, our investigators will assess the need for protective services.
Abuse Includes:
- Physical harm or injury
- Neglect or abandonment
- Financial exploitation
- Verbal or emotional abuse
- Involuntary seclusion
- Wrongful use of restraints
- Sexual abuse
Your report is confidential. You may also choose to remain anonymous.
If you get a recording, leave a message and we will call you back. We check messages every hour and respond to those left after hours the next business day.
When You Call
Our screeners will ask questions to determine if the case should be investigated. If the case doesn’t require an investigation, we may offer services and resources to help protect someone who’s vulnerable.
We can also help answer questions about the process, and the role of mandatory reporters.
Training for Mandatory Reporters
Our training covers culturally responsive reporting and is offered with CEUs.
To schedule a training for your organization, contact us at bhd.aps@multco.us or 503-422-5640.
