You can make an appointment for your visit or just walk in.
- Research time is limited to one hour per person per day.
- When planning your visit, please contact our office and confirm that the records you need are available.
- Parking is very limited at the Multnomah Building. Please review our parking and transportation suggestions.

What if the document I want isn’t available online?
If the document you want is not online, bring your Recorded Documents Request Form (222.91 KB)(128.88 KB) to our counter.You will need to provide:
- document type
- document number (or book and page) - if not known, additional information may be required
- year of recording
- full name on document
Requests are usually completed and mailed within 5 business days.

How do I get a copy of my military discharge (DD-214)?
If you recorded your military discharge form (DD-214) with Multnomah County, mail us a completed, notarized request form.
All DD-214's can be requested through the National Archives.
Can I get lien information over the phone?
No. Liens can be researched for free at the terminals in our Customer Service Lobby. Subscribers can search the lien index online through our Digital Research Room.What tax records are available for my property?
Tax Bills (Copies of actual tax statements) 1988 - Current- Tax Rolls (Certified tax, value and appraisal information) 1942 - 2010
- Characteristic Cards (Full appraisal information and values) 1991 - Current
- Block Books (Name of Owner and Value of property) 1907 - 1942
Are these tax records online?
Some. You can find recent property information by visiting Multnomah County’s property tax website. The website contains recent property values, property characteristics and copies of current fall tax bills. Click on the Guest Login button and enter a property tax account number or the property address.

After we receive your request, we will determine how long it will take to complete the work and any fees that are associated. We charge $45 per hour for any requests taking more than 5 minutes.
You must mail in a payment before we can complete your request. We are unable to take any payments online or over the phone.If you have any questions about what records you need, you can live chat, email or call our office so we can help you with your request.
We complete most requests within 5 business days. Some requests, depending on size and staffing levels, may take longer to complete.Marriage records
We maintain all marriage licenses issued by Multnomah County, going to back to 1855.
How do I get a copy of a marriage license?
- Order Online You may order a certified or non-certified copy of your marriage record via our Digital Research Room.Once ordered, it takes 1-2 business days for our office to mail the certified copies. Non certified copies will be available online at the time of purchase. Marriage records are digitally available from 1990-present. Marriage records from 1980 - 1989 are viewable by index only. If you are looking for a pre-1980 marriage record, you may visit our office in person, or submit a Request for Certified Copies form by mail or in our dropbox with payment.

Our marriage index from 1924 to 1979 is available on terminals in our Public Research Area of the Multnomah Building.
For records before 1924, please see our counter staff for assistance.

Requesting A Public Record
Under Oregon’s Public Records law (ORS 192), individuals, organizations, agencies, and businesses may request that Multnomah County provide copies or access to written documents and materials. The request must:
- Be in writing.
- Include contact information.
- Clearly state what records are sought.
Please be advised there may be a fee to cover staff time researching and retrieving the documents. You will be notified of any estimated fee and cost in advance. Payment is required before the County will produce the records. The fee may be reduced or waived if it is determined it is in the interest of the public.
