Dear Friends,
As the debate about guns continues around the Country, I wanted to update you on progress right here in Multnomah County. Last Thursday, the Board of County Commissioners unanimously approved an ordinance to help reduce gun violence in our community. The ordinance includes new regulations on the possession and discharge of a weapon, guns and children, and it requires that stolen or lost firearms be reported immediately. Last month I had the opportunity to tour Jackson Middle School's SUN site. SUN stands for Schools Uniting Neighborhoods, and the engagement from the Jackson community is a great example of how the SUN system works.

I am pleased to share that today, April 25th, the Board of County Commissioners unanimously approved a gun safety ordinance that I proposed with the support of Chair Jeff Cogen, District Attorney Rod Underhill and Sheriff Dan Staton.

Multnomah County's Board of Commissioners on Thursday, April 25 unanimously approved an ordinance designed to keep guns away from children and put some limits on where loaded guns can be carried or discharged.

For the past few months, I’ve been working with our County Attorney and Chair Jeff Cogen on an ordinance addressing gun safety in Multnomah County. The proposed ordinance will come before the Board next Thursday, April 18 th at 9:30am.
