Multnomah County is home to many — families, businesses, and people of different backgrounds, cultures, countries of origin, stories and experiences.
Recent national events, including the increased presence of immigration enforcement, have understandably caused immense fear and uncertainty for many in our community. We believe all members of our community should feel safe going to their job, school, medical appointments, and places of worship.
Multnomah County is working to defend our values of safety, trust and belonging, and support the well-being and dignity of community members affected by these federal actions.
What you can expect from Multnomah County
Multnomah County will:
- Communicate clearly with clients, patients and anyone seeking County services what to expect at appointments and in our facilities.
- Adapt services when possible to better suit the needs of the community, including providing virtual or home-based options, which can be provided in multiple languages.
- Provide information to staff on policies, procedures and expectations related to immigration in or near County facilities.
- Connect families and communities with resources and information related to their legal rights, financial support and other needs.
- Work with partner agencies and community-based organizations to support families.
Multnomah County will not:
- Provide information or share data with federal law enforcement about our clients and patients without a valid court order.
- Assist with any federal immigration activities unless required by a court order.
- Willingly allow federal immigration into areas generally inaccessible to the public, including exam rooms and offices.
