Construction work on the Morrison Bridge will require equipment and staff to be staged on the south path of the bridge in April, as crews use hatches in the path to lower construction equipment down to the lift span pit below the bridge deck. The contractor is attaching thousands of pounds of weight to the bridge counterweights to balance the heavier deck that will be installed on the lift span this year.
The southside path will remain open to bicyclists and pedestrians during the work, but the path will be more congested at times.
On the night of Sunday, April 2 there will be a series of bridge openings from 11 p.m. until 4 a.m. Monday morning to do work related to the project. Each bridge lift may last as long as 20 minutes. Bridge users may avoid delays by using a different bridge that night.
