Project Information

  • Location: Morrison Bridge lift span, SE Morrison and Belmont Streets
  • Schedule: Spring-Fall 2025
  • Estimated Cost: $4 million
  • Funding Source: ODOT and Local Funds

Project Description

We will be adding titanium rebar to strengthen the SE Morrison and Belmont Street approach ramps on the east side of the Morrison Bridge. This will remove the weight restrictions that prevent heavy trucks from using the bridge and keep it safe for modern freight trucks and other vehicles to cross. We will also repair the bearings and motors that lift and lower the bridge lift span. These updates will keep the bridge in good working order.

The Morrison Bridge over the Willamette River and its ramps serve as a critical connection between downtown Portland, SE Portland and the interstate highway system. The bridge is 66 years old and requires regular maintenance and updates to keep it working for our community.

Traffic Impacts

Most work on the approach ramps will take place underneath the structure, but joint rehabilitation work will take place on the top side of the bridge deck. There will be weekend and nighttime lane closures on I-5 underneath the ramps, and minor daytime lane closures on city streets beneath them. There will be single lane closures on the bridge when work is taking place on the topside.

Schedule

The work on the approach ramps is scheduled for summer of 2025. The work on the moveable spans is scheduled for spring through fall of 2025.
