Melissa Navas serves as the deputy communications director for Multnomah County and coordinates messaging for the Board of Commissioners, Office of Diversity and Equity, and Government Relations.
She comes to the County after having served as press secretary to both Oregon Governor Kate Brown and Governor John Kitzhaber. Melissa returns to Multnomah County where she previously served as a Communications Coordinator working primarily with the Department of Community Justice.
Melissa is a former journalist who wrote about K-12 education and health for The Oregonian. While at the newspaper she investigated teacher sex abuse in Oregon and the backlog of educator discipline cases, which led to changes in state law.
In her spare time, Melissa finds joy in empowering young people. She volunteers with several youth-focused organizations in the Portland metro area.
