Originally from the San Francisco Bay Area, Mike Pullen is a communications coordinator. He mainly focuses on public involvement and information around transportation projects and emergency management.
Before the county, Mike spent seven years as the director of marketing and communications for the Portland chapter of the Urban League. He took the job after hearing Civil Rights documentarian Juan Williams speak, Mike knew he had to do something in the community. He started out as a volunteer tutor for an afterschool homework program at the Urban League and was eventually offered a full-time job.
In 1998, Mike took a communications job at the county and gravitated towards transportation early on. In his time at the county, he has worked on a number of large capital projects as the communications lead. That includes the new Sellwood Bridge and the Downtown courthouse. He enjoys his job because he sees the communications team as the link between the people and the government. “As a county, we give people a chance to be heard more,” Mike says.
In his free time, Mike enjoys listening to live music with his wife, Saundra, traveling and swimming.
