Multnomah County to participate in ReUse Week 2010 (Slideshow)

June 7, 2010

In conjunction with the City of Portland, Multnomah County will devote the week of June 9-16 to ReUse Week 2010, an annual series of events aimed at raising the visibility of local reuse organizations and their mission.

The recently formed ReUse PDX coalition, which includes nonprofits like SCRAP, Free Geek, Habitat ReStore and The Rebuilding Center, is hosting various recycling events, supplies drives, and craft activities throughout the week, starting with an open house and reception at Schoolhouse Supplies on June 9.

On June 11, SCRAP and the Community Warehouse will host a kitchen materials drive at the SCRAP store. Multnomah County Chair Jeff Cogen will help collect donations of used goods from the public, including items like dishes, pots, pans, flatware and corks, which the Community Warehouse will redistribute to families in need.

The Choose to ReUse Fair will happen the following day at The Rebuilding Center, where SCRAP will facilitate a children’s craft activity and attendees can take part in a screen printing workshop in which Chair Cogen and City Commissioner Nick Fish will also participate. On nearby Mississippi Avenue, the annual Cirque du Cycling fair will take place concurrent with the ReUse Fair.
