Unincorporated communities, like Springdale and Burlington, are required by state law to have zoning rules that protect agriculture and forestry, ensure maintenance of transportation facilities and address the preservation of water quality and the carrying capacity of soil and water supplies.

The Springdale community in east Multnomah County and the Burlington community in west Multnomah County are beginning the process of making Rural Community plans by hosting two open meetings April 2010 Open Houses (81.45 KB) in each area.

These introductory meetings will address the process involved with making such plans, important data and information about the two areas, and give local residents living outside the Urban Growth Boundary a chance to contribute feedback and idea to the process. Additional meetings for each community planning process will take place some time following these two initial meetings, and development and adoption of these community plans is expected to take place by the conclusion of this year.

April meeting times and locations:

  • Springdale Community: April 20 at Corbett High School, 35800 E. Hist. Col. River Hwy, 7:00 p.m. to 8:30 p.m.
  • Burlington Community: April 27 at Skyline Grange, 11275 NW Skyline Blvd, 7:00 p.m. to 8:30 p.m.

Note: These meetings immediately follow open houses that are being hosted by the Multnomah County Planning office on the same nights at these locations.
