On October 12, 2010, parole/probation officers in the Domestic Violence Unit of the Department of Community Justice took part in a multi-agency domestic violence sweep which resulted in 62 field contacts and the arrest of 14 persons. Warrants were served on individuals — including clients on supervision and persons wanted in connection with criminal activity — at homes, businesses and other locations throughout Multnomah County.

The sweep coincides with Domestic Violence Awareness Month and brings emphasis to the problem of domestic violence throughout the country.  DCJ has participated in the Multnomah County sweep for eight straight years.

Stuart Walker, a parole/probation officer who participated in the sweep believes the day was “very successful”.  In addition to helping raise awareness of the widespread problem of domestic violence in the local community, Walker touted the additional benefits of team-building that comes with participation.  Walker notes that the sweep “has always been a good opportunity to work alongside our community partners towards our common goals.”  DCJ participated in the sweep along with the Portland Police Bureau (DVRU), Multnomah County Sheriffs Office, DVERT Team, Multnomah County District Attorneys Office, local domestic violence advocates, and MCSO Warrant Strike Team.
