Each year, Central City Concern hosts a stand down in the Portland area to assist our returning veterans. Seeing such a great need for the services and connections provided at these events, the Chapel, a Foursquare chuch in Troutdale, is again hosting a Stand Down aimed at helping veterans living in east Multnomah County.
The East County Veterans Stand Down is meant to empower our local veterans and help them thrive in the communities they so bravely served.

The Veterans Stand Down is an event for veterans and their families to receive basic social services from a variety of community and government agencies. Services include medical, dental and vision exams and care, mental health and substance abuse counseling, employment and housing assistance, legal assistance, a hot meal, and hygiene and personal supplies necessary for daily living.
This July, as we celebrate our nation's independence, it is important to recognize our military service members and veterans for the sacrifices they have made. To honor and support our veterans, we will be collecting donations throughout the month of July.
Examples of donations that make a difference include:
- Toiletries (soap, shampoo, razors, feminine hygiene products, etc.)
- Toilet paper
- First aid supplies
- Pet food
- Tea, instant coffee and hot chocolate
- Matches and lighters
Donation bins will be in the lobby of the Multnomah Building (501 SE Hawthorne Blvd., Portland, OR 97214) through the end of July, or you can contact the District 4 office (x85213) to arrange for donations collected at other county sites. Bins have also been set up on the DCHS floors in the Lincoln Building (421 SW Oak St, Portland, OR) and at the Mid-County Health Clinic (12710 SE Division St., Portland, OR).
Please look for the red bin in our Multnomah Building lobby for the rest of this month. Thank you in advance for your generous contributions to this worthy event; together we can make a difference.
If you are interested in volunteering for the event, please contact Jerry Criswell (503) 669-7112 or Kim Pettina (503) 794-3275.
