AS A PARENT I UNDERSTAND THE VALUE OF HIGHER EDUCATION

I am a graduate of Mt. Hood Community College. One of my children is a graduate of MHCC, and another of my children may one day be. MHCC is a good school that could be a great school. I believe MHCC is not appreciated as much as it could be by our community. What is needed now is an infusion of new thinking and a fresh outlook. I will bring needed viewpoint diversity to the position of director of the MHCC Board.

FOR TOO LONG THE NEEDS OF WORKING FAMILIES HAVE NOT BEEN GIVEN PRIORITY.

In the past the goals of other institutions, professional organizations, and government entities, which do not necessarily represent the working families of Multnomah County, have been given unnecessary weight. In this time of economic stress the vision of working families for their children's future should be our highest priority. We should help to make dreams come true. If we cannot do that, I believe we are not doing our job as citizens and members of the community. If elected, that job will be my top priority.

COMMUNITY COLLEGES ARE CRITICAL.

I believe the way to open the door to the hopes of MHCC District families is to provide them with full knowledge of their options, enabling them to make informed decisions about their children's future. I believe those decisions, once made by students and their families, should be honored.

I WILL BRING A FRESH VIEWPOINT, FRESH IDEAS, AND FRESH AIR

I will encourage curriculum broadening, including preparation for small business startups, the powerhouse of the American economic miracle. I will encourage fiscal responsibility and sensitivity to the needs of Multnomah County families. I will represent them and no others. Thank you.
