On Thursday, March 15, Multnomah County Chair Jeff Cogen and the Multnomah County Citizen Involvement Committee will sponsor an educational forum about changes in the health care system due to new state and federal laws. The forum will take place in the Boardroom at the Multnomah Building, at 501 SE Hawthorne Blvd. in Portland, on March 15 from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. The building is accessible by bus lines #4, 6, 10 and 14.
The forum will be informational, with state and Multnomah County officials speaking on a variety of topics related to health system transformation. Topics that will be covered include:
- Overview of federal and state goals for health care transformation
- 2012 state legislative changes
- Regional changes in the delivery of health care services
- Multnomah County's role in transformation
- Future opportunities for public input and available resources for more information
The public will also have opportunities to ask questions. There will be a second forum later this year as the state measures are implemented.
In the last year, the Oregon Legislature authorized a new health delivery system for people who get access to care through Medicaid or who lack insurance. The measures create coordinated care organizations (CCO), regional entities that will coordinate physical, behavioral and oral care. Learn more about the CCO and the goal of improving patient health and the patient’s experience, and doing both more efficiently.
Spanish and Russian language interpreters will be present.
