1) Forum on health care system transformation. What happened? What will happen next? 

On Thursday, March 15, the Multnomah County Citizen Involvement Committee (CIC) and County Chair Jeff Cogen will sponsor an educational forum about changes in the health care system due to new state and federal laws. The forum is intended to be informational, with officials from the state of Oregon and Multnomah County presenting on a variety of topics related to health care system transformation. The public will also have opportunities to ask questions. Learn more about the March forum. A second forum will be held later this year as the state measures are implemented.

In 2011, the Oregon Legislature authorized a new health delivery system for people who access care through Medicaid or who lack insurance. On Feb. 23, 2012, the Legislature approved the Oregon Health Authority’s plan to implement the changes. The measures create a system of regional entities called coordinated care organizations (CCOs) that will coordinate the physical, behavioral and oral care of patients. 2) Multnomah County wants your suggestions on how to spend your tax dollars wisely next year! Please take this 5-minute survey to give input to county commissioners about which programs they should prioritize for funding.  

Currently, there is a $1.9 million gap between ongoing revenues and expenses for next year’s budget but this may increase depending on the State’s budget. All county programs and services may be affected by reductions as the Chair and the Board of County Commissioners make decisions about how to allocate the budget to best carry out the county's mission.

Give your input to the board about prioritizing funding for county services and programs by taking this brief survey. The survey is also available in Spanish or on paper by contacting 503-988-3450. The last date to take the survey is April 30, 2012. 3) Nominate a community service hero for the county's Volunteer Hall of Fame.

Do you know someone who should be honored as MultCo’s outstanding citizen volunteer and inducted into the county’s “Volunteer Hall of Fame?” Nominate them for the 18th annual Gladys McCoy Award!!!!! The award is presented annually by the CIC. The winner will be honored by county officials at the County’s Annual Volunteer Award Ceremony on April 18th, and their name will appear on a plaque with past winners on permanent public display in the County Boardroom.

Nominees should have made a difference in one or more issues important to Chair McCoy including: civil rights, affirmative action, community, youth and family, local government, environment, or education.
