Dive into the Archives is a weekly feature of this blog. An image will be posted each Tuesday. It's up to you either to identify it or to caption it. The answer will be posted the following Friday. If you click on the picture, you can see a larger image.

So what's going on here?

Have fun!

Here's the skinny on the picture at right. We'll have another one next week.

County road crews perform a number of services to insure that roads are safe and maintained. In this 1962 project photograph, a crew member is taking samples of the road base on SE Stark. The young man with the intense gaze would be at home in a current episode of Portlandia. Note the fixie, plaid shirt, rolled up pants leg, fauxhawk – all signs of a budding hipster. It just goes to show you that many things – from road construction to fashion – reoccur regularly. (Records of the Transportation Division, Multnomah County Archives)
