It's that time of year again! Archives Month is the time when archives institutions and archives collections and the people that care for them and make them available are celebrated across the United States. The Society of American Archives has set up a resources page related to Archives Month.
Here in Portland, a number of archives are participating in the second Oregon Archives Crawl. It's worth remembering that while archives are useful to academics and policy-makers, they are also important parts of all of our cultural and intellectual heritage. The crawl reinforces the notion that archives are for everyone and that they can be a fun part of our lives.
The Multnomah County Board of Commissioners recognized Archives Month in a proclamation adopted on September 29th, reaffriming their commitment to Multnomah County's written record. Here it is in all its glory:
