On the Locating Records section of our website, we include helpful information on how to access various types of records that are created or managed by various government entities. Some of these records are maintained by Multnomah County, but others are not. If we do not hold the records they are looking for, we endeavor to direct researchers to the correct government agency for locating the records they are seeking.

The records which are most useful to genealogists are spread among various and disparate locations. Anyone that has spent some time researching into family history will have quickly discovered that even the most well known websites for conducting genealogical research will fall short in many areas. This arises from the fact that the information accessed from these websites is typically stored in physical form (paper, microfilm, etc.) and must manually be located, selected, scanned or typed by a human, formatted for the web, and uploaded to the website. All of this takes great time and effort. 

Despite great efforts towards making such information readily available online, most genealogists reach a point at which they will have to directly contact a record holding agency. The majority of the questions we get are from genealogists looking to locate:
