In the last Dive into the Archives post, we wondered about the relationship of fact to truth it its picture. Note its small size, absence of smoking ruins, lack of a feisty Scarlett O'Hara. This is clearly not Tara. It comes from the Transportation Division collections. It is labeled 182nd and Stark, 1960. It's in a collection of photos documenting road projects. That's the facts. And that's why people research in archives. By itself, this picture doesn't tell us much. But in research about family land or about business architecture or neighborhood development it could be an invaluable piece to a broader truth; an image of something no longer available for the eye's inspection.
You can see the new fact of this location in this picture.
Come back next Tuesday for another chance to play.
