opb vanport film

OPB will air a new documentary Vanport tonight a 9pm. It tells the story of the creation of the city, its time as housing for the WWII shipbuilding industry, its postwar community, and its destruction by flooding from the Columbia River in 1948. Full of rarely seen archival footage and framed by the stories of four eyewitnesses (one of whom is State Senator Jackie Winters), the documentary will also stream on OPB's site.

Coming at Vanport from a different angle, Vanport Mosaic is planning its second Vanport Festival for Spring 2017. Vanport Mosaic's mission is "capturing, celebrating, and preserving the experiences of those who lived in Vanport through a multi-disciplinary approach."
