Recent Work
Removing fish for creek diversion at NW 8th Ave.

NW 8th Ave. Curve

  • Barricades are in place for the hard closure of NW Cornelius Pass Road near NW 8th Ave. where a culvert is being replaced.  No vehicles can pass this hard closure until late September.

  • The creek that passed through the old culvert was diverted and water life was salvaged, including about a dozen sculpin fish and one crayfish.  No trout were present.

  • Excavation to remove the old culvert and install the new culvert has begun.  The contractor will install base fill and foundation material before installing the bottom segments of the pre-cast concrete culvert next week.

  • The pre-cast concrete culvert segments have been delivered to the NW 8th Ave. site.

S Curves

  • Existing asphalt was milled down where the S curves will be realigned.

  • Removal of asphalt and base material is in progress before excavation work begins on the realigned curves.

Traffic

NW Cornelius Pass Road closed to through traffic between Highway 30 and NW Skyline on July 13.  The closure will be in place through September while the contractor completes safety improvements at two locations.

  • Caution on Side Roads:  We’ve had fewer traffic issues than in 2019. We have had reports of speeding, especially on NW McNamee Road, which have been shared with the Sheriff’s Office.  Please drive with caution on the narrow and steep side roads where sight distance is limited.  NW Newberry Road is the preferred detour, with a traffic signal at Highway 30.

  • Logie Trail Road closed to through traffic:  Logie Trail Road is closed to through traffic while Cornelius Pass Road is closed. The closure prevents cut-through traffic and large trucks from using this narrow, steep road.

  • Other Road Work:  Highway 26 Vista Ridge Tunnel:  A contractor working for ODOT will close two of three lanes in the tunnel to install new LED lighting from 9 pm to 6 am Monday through Thursday nights until August 7.  For Cornelius Pass users, this may impact detoured truck trips on weeknights. At least one lane will always be open in each direction in the tunnel.  There will be some night closures of ramps leading to the tunnel.
