The contractor has installed the new culvert that is about 30 feet below the road. The contractor is now backfilling the area above the culvert and regrading the new slope. The team is close to reaching the subgrade level, about three feet below the roadway, where a different form of construction is used.
The creek is flowing through the new culvert, so crews do not need to staff pumps 24 hours a day as they did in January and February. Sand bags that were used to dam up the creek and create a drier work zone for the contractor have been removed.
The utility CenturyLink has asked the County to install a conduit to carry their wires under the road. The conduit needs to be installed before the road can be paved. If the schedule holds, the road will reopen in early April. Some of the work is weather dependent.
