Project Description

This project converted a section of Sandy Boulevard to a modern urban street with turn lanes. It included pavement and drainage improvements, new sidewalks and bike lanes, and enhancements to existing bus stops. It included a new right turn lane for westbound traffic entering the Townsend Farms business park. The design concept is shown in the image below.

Design for Sandy Blvd. improvements

Traffic During Construction

The contractor rebuilt the road in two phases: north and south.  Sandy Boulevard remained open during construction, but traffic was flagged on a single lane at times during the work day. Access was maintained for residents, businesses, mail delivery, garbage collection, and emergency vehicles. During work at driveways, there were short access delays, with prior notice.  TrIMet bus stops for the 21 Sandy Blvd/223rd bus lines within the project area were temporarily closed during construction.

Project Update

A public meeting was held on September 24, 2018.
