Serving those who serve
Veterans Services is one of Commissioner McKeel's priorities as a member of the Multnomah County Board. As the mother of a U.S.. Marine who has had multiple deployments, she understands the importance of community support for the service members and their families during a deployment and upon their return.
This support includes
- improved access to the benefits our veterans have earned through their service to country
- quality mental and physical health care, education, and housing
- support translating their military experience into good, family-wage jobs
Commissioner McKeel will continue to support our Multnomah County Veterans Service Officers, who help returning veterans access their benefits and other services for them and their families. Contact them at (503) 988-3620 x25005, or read Veterans' Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs).
Commissioner McKeel also partners with county departments and local businesses for veteran recruitment in an effort to hire and retain veteran employees. This includes educating and urging employers to use best practices which have been developed by the county's Office of Diversity and Equity.
