Addiction Services works not just to treat alcohol, drug and gambling addictions, but also to stop them before they start. According to data from the state's Addictions and Mental Health Division, one in every 16 adults older than 25 needs addiction treatment, and one in every 15 youth needs treatment for alcohol abuse. A recent survey found that 47,000 Oregonians were problem gamblers.

In efforts to prevent these addictions, Multnomah County partners with other public agencies, private non-profit organizations, behavioral health providers and community coalitions.
