College to County Intern Spotlight: Markayla

College to County (C2C) is a paid internship that exposes students to the vast opportunities the County offers.

During Markayla’s first internship in 2014, she learned the basics of working in an office, while also taking advantage of trainings and department meetings. The following year she learned how to advocate for resources within the County that would strengthen her skills and gain experience needed to obtain a bachelor's degree in psychology. Markayla continued to fall in love with the mental health field because of her experience at the county and seeing the need of the community. This included meetings with judges, lawyers, and community providers, which helped Markayla learn about the resources needed to help our clients.

In 2018, Markayla was hired as an on-call Case Manager for the Behavioral Health Division. She learned how to navigate our crisis management system to meet the needs of the community. Currently, as a Mental Health Consultant in the Health Department, Markayla is taking the skills she has learned throughout her education and her time at the county to support the families and clients in our county who are in crisis.
