The county Board of Commissioners on Tuesday will hold the first of several sessions on the budget proposal unveiled last week by Chair Jeff Cogen.
The first session at 9 a.m. on May 10 in the board room of the Multnomah Building (501 S.E. Hawthorne Blvd.) will begin with a financial overview presented to the board followed by a discussion scheduled to run from 10 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. on the public safety part of the budget. Public safety also will be the subject of the second work session scheduled to run that same day from 1:30 p.m to 4 p.m.
Subsequent work sessions scheduled through May 26 include discussions of general government, health and human services, and the library system. Work sessions are open to the public, but no public testimony will be taken.
Three hearings in which the public may testify on the proposed budget also have been scheduled, each to begin at 6 p.m. The first of those three public hearings will be on May 18 in the county board room. The second will be on May 25 in the Sharron Kelley Room of the Multnomah East County Building (6700 N.E. 8th St.) in Gresham. And the third will be on May 31 in the IRCO central office (10301 N.E. Glisan St.).
