The deadline to apply for mortgage assistance, Friday, January 14, is fast approaching. The process includes an application and an appointment, but no costs or fees.
Oregon recently received $220 million in federal funds to help homeowners avoid foreclosure. Under the Mortgage Payment Assistance Program (MPA), homeowners who are struggling to pay their mortgage because of unemployment or a substantial loss of income may be eligible to receive assistance from the state.
Under the program, the state will pay the mortgage of at least 5,000 qualified recipients for an entire year, up to $20,000. To find out if you qualify to receive assistance, take the MPA’s Program Eligibility Test online or call 2-1-1 (1-800-SAFENET) and press 8.
