Job description
EXAMPLE OF DUTIES:
- Counsel inmates individually, attending to their spiritual and interpersonal needs; conduct weddings, baptisms and funerals; make funeral arrangements as required.
- Plan and coordinate with various religious organizations to provide multi-denominational religious worship and services; maintain cooperative working relationships with outside agencies and staff.
- Recruit volunteer pastors/religious interns to fulfill the religious needs of inmates; train, orient and oversee chaplaincy volunteers and interns.
- Investigate the religious requests of inmates to determine the authenticity and the validity of the religious activities requested; document inmate requests and maintain detailed records of services provided.
- Respond to and resolve confidential and sensitive inquiries; serve as technical resource on religious matters to county staff, clients, general public and/or outside agencies; investigate complaints and recommend corrective actions as necessary; act as representative on committees, interagency task forces, special projects, or other community outreach activities as assigned.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS GUIDELINES:
Any combination of experience and training that would likely provide the required knowledge, skills, and abilities is qualifying. Requirements are determined at the time of recruitment based on responsibilities of the individual position and business needs of the department.
Chaplain
Training and experience for advanced level, professional classifications are typically equivalent to a bachelor's degree and three (3) to six (6) years of experience that demonstrates the ability to perform the duties of the position. (Equivalency 7-10 years of qualifying training and/or experience).
Depending upon assignment, candidates may be required to pass a criminal background check, have a valid driver license, and /or additional training, licenses, or certificates.
