Job description

EXAMPLES OF DUTIES:

  • Conduct investigations of clients, perform mental health assessment, and interview allegedly mentally ill individuals.
  • Collect, organize, analyze, and evaluate medical, mental health, and social information from treatment records and medical charts; consult with medical and mental health professionals, law enforcement, family members, and friends to collect additional information.
  • Provide crisis intervention, including risk and diagnostic assessment, management of potential life-threatening behaviors to self and others; coordinate and communicate risk and assessment to community emergency services; monitor progress of in-patient care, evaluate and approve for discharge from hospital, and assess for meeting continued commitment criteria.
  • Present findings, prepare hearing reports, and make legal recommendations to the circuit court based upon criteria outlined in ORS 426.
  • Act as representative on committees, interagency task forces, special projects and other community outreach activities regarding behavioral health issues; may testify as an expert witness at commitment hearings.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

  • Receive direction from manager or staff.
  • May exercise functional and technical supervision over staff.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS GUIDELINES:

Any combination of experience and training that would likely provide the required knowledge, skills, and abilities is qualifying. Requirements are determined at the time of recruitment based on responsibilities of the individual position and business needs of the department.

Pre-Commitment Investigator

Training and experience for journey level, professional classifications are typically equivalent to a bachelor's degree and one (1) to four (4) years of experience that demonstrates the ability to perform the duties of the position. (Equivalency 5-8 years of qualifying training and/or experience).

Depending upon assignment, candidates may be required to pass a criminal background check, have a valid driver license, and/or additional training, licenses, or certificates.
