This is a standalone job profile and is not part of a series. Positions in this job profile provide assistance to establish and enforce child support orders and paternity.

Job description

EXAMPLES OF DUTIES:

  • Review assigned cases referred from new applications or identified on the child support case management system; determine and initiate appropriate administrative or judicial legal action, obtain supporting documentation for a legal action to establish or modify a child support order or to establish paternity.
  • Negotiate equitable payment with obligor using administrative rule payment schedule and guidelines; determine and initiate appropriate administrative and judicial legal enforcement action, including garnishment of wages or assets, retention of income tax refunds, contempt of court order, DNA test orders in establishing paternity, and interstate legal remedies to collect child support.
  • Update case management system to reflect new or modified court orders and calculate financial adjustments to cases to reflect changes.
  • Examine cases where one party is residing outside of Oregon and determine which state has jurisdiction over the obligor; petition other states; monitor cases to ensure the responding state is taking action to enforce the child support order.
  • Review and prepare cases docketed in court for hearings or trials by providing review and explanation of case history; may testify at judicial hearings.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS GUIDELINES:

Any combination of experience and training that would likely provide the required knowledge, skills, and abilities is qualifying. Requirements are determined at the time of recruitment based on responsibilities of the individual position and business needs of the department.

Support Enforcement Agent

Training and experience for this journey level, technical classification is typically equivalent to an associate's degree and up to four (4) years of experience that demonstrates the ability to perform the duties of the position. (Equivalency 2-6 years of qualifying training and/or experience).

Depending upon assignment, candidates may be required to pass a criminal background check, have a valid driver license, and/or additional training, licenses, or certificates.
