On July 11th, thirteen Probation and Parole Officers from Multnomah County Department of Community Justice (DCJ) took part in the Law Enforcement Torch Run for Special Olympics. Multnomah County’s stage of the Torch Run began at Reynolds High School in Troutdale and ended approximately 6.6 miles later at the County’s Hansen Building. From there, a continuing series of runners representing area law enforcement agencies got the torch to Newberg High School for opening ceremonies of the Oregon Special Olympics Summer Games July 13th. There were an estimated 3,000 athletes, coaches and other volunteers taking part. Events included softball, golf, track and field and bocce.

Community Justice Manager, Denise Pena, was on the planning committee and helped organize DCJ’s involvement in the event. This is Pena’s fourth year doing the Torch Run. "I enjoy running and have participated in the torch run in the past. It's a great event and we had lots of fun,” she said.

DCJ runners who participated included Tiffany Hopwood, Krissy Radich, John Bailey, Kathryn Meier, Katie Roller, Stu Walker, Carmen Montano, Pam Lewis, Jolyn Gatto, Cynthia Goyette, Jerry Garza, Tomasina Tavai-Porotesano and Denise Pena.  Thanks to all who gave of their time for this fantastic event!
