Web Accessibility

Learn about our web accessibility policy and what we're doing to make sure everyone can use our website.

Multnomah County is committed to providing equitable access for all people, regardless of ability. We are actively working to improve the accessibility of our websites and digital properties to people with disabilities.

Recent federal rules under the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) require local governments to meet the international technical standard of the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG). WCAG defines requirements for designers and developers to improve accessibility for people with disabilities.

Conformance status

Our conformance standard is WCAG 2.2 Level AA. This website is partially conformant with WCAG 2.2 Level AA. Partially conformant means that some parts of the content do not fully conform to the accessibility standard.

Measures to support accessibility

We are taking the following measures to ensure web accessibility. We:

  • Include accessibility throughout our internal policies.
  • Provide web accessibility training for our staff.
  • Test our code for compliance with web accessibility guidelines.
  • Train department contributors on web accessibility basics.

Accessibility limitations

While we strive to make all digital experiences accessible, some content may not yet fully meet accessibility standards due to technology restraints or legacy formatting issues.

For example, archived documents might not work with current assistive technologies because they do not contain titles, headings, alt text, logical reading order, or other accessibility features.

As part of our ongoing commitment to access and inclusion, we are working to address these gaps. To identify accessibility issues, we are conducting a sitewide audit of all files and pages.

Request ADA accommodation

As required by Title II of the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA), local governments must provide effective communication and make reasonable modifications.

Persons with disabilities can request an ADA accommodation for any content found on this website.
