Multnomah County Animal Services (MCAS) needs a new facility. Our current facility was built in 1968. It no longer meets our community needs or modern standards for animal care.
We are in the early stages of designing a healthier and more supportive building for everyone who depends on it.
We have worked with MCAS leadership and staff to identify the project's goals. These goals reflect the experience of staff and the animals in their care. They capture both aspirations for the new building and the current facility’s shortcomings. The goals will evolve as staff and community provide feedback.
The redesign of the facility will:
- Support safe, humane animal care.
- Help staff and volunteers do their work.
- Be easier for the public to access and navigate.
- Feel calmer, more welcoming, and connected to the community.
- Be practical to operate and maintain over time.
