Ceasfire in Gaza Resolution - Audience

Audre Lorde said “ And at last you'll know with surpassing certainty that only one thing is more frightening than speaking your truth. And that is not speaking.”

Standing up for justice is not easy. But on March 7, 2024 in a unanimous vote, our Multnomah County Board of Commissioners called for an immediate de-escalation and ceasefire in Palestine and Israel. I believe that being a global citizen means recognizing that we are all interconnected and that our actions have an impact on others around the world. By embracing our interconnectedness we can foster empathy, cooperation and a sense of shared responsibility for the well-being of all people.

I want to thank those of you who testified, called, emailed and met with me to share your stories, your histories and your hopes. Your voice matters and without it the passing of this resolution would not have been possible. View the passed resolution here.
