S.T.A.R.T. (Success Through Accountability, Restitution and Treatment) is a treatment court targeting high risk/high need Justice Involved Individuals charged with repeat property offenses. This program offers downward dispositional sentences as an alternative to incarceration, and engages participants in an intensive drug court model. Primary partners (Circuit Court, District Attorney, Defense Bar, Department of Community Justice, Sheriff’s Office and Volunteers of America) support S.T.A.R.T’s 10 key components:
- Integrated treatment with the justice system
- Ensuring public safety and protecting due process
- Early and prompt placement
- Continuum of treatment and rehabilitation
- Frequent alcohol/drug testing
- Coordinated compliance strategies
- Ongoing judicial/participant interaction
- Measured goals and effectiveness gauged
- Continuing education
- Ongoing collaboration with numerous other community partners
