This is a standalone job profile and is not part of a series. Positions in this job profile perform investigative and trial preparation activities for the District Attorney’s Office in the prosecutions of cases in adult and juvenile court, and child support systems.
Job description

EXAMPLES OF DUTIES:

  • Conduct criminal and civil investigations, including delinquency, dependency, support enforcement, internal investigations, conflict cases, and expungements; interview witnesses and other individuals for cases; analyze books, accounts, files, and other information; order evidence materials; take photographs and measurements; perform surveillance or observation of individuals and property; process, prepare and organize exhibits and evidence for trial, coordinate evidence storage and transportation.
  • Perform investigative duties for specific units, special investigations, and task force assignments, including homicide, crimes against persons, white collar crimes, fraud cases, drug investigations, major and gang related crimes, property crimes, biased crimes, auto theft, organized retail crime, internal investigations, and Juvenile Court and Family Law; collaborate with law enforcement, businesses, and other stakeholders on policies, procedures, and protocols; may participate in the arrest team or with sworn staff to complete detainments and arrests.
  • Conduct financial investigations, including bank and investment assets, credit reports, and loan applications; assist in investigating real or personal property cases, reviewing estate beneficiary information, employment, and conducting income searches; gather records to prove contempt.
  • Assist in preparing, presenting, and coordinating cases; prepare diagrams, charts, scale drawings, summaries, and chronologies; contribute to trial strategy; coordinate case information, testimonies, and arrangements regarding witnesses, outside agencies, and opposing counsel; provide testimony regarding investigations or as a subject matter expert.
  • Conduct, edit, and trace surveillance through wire, oral, photo, video, and other electronic communications to provide supporting evidence for prosecution of criminal cases; review body worn camera footage; examine and perform technical analyses of digital evidence. Compile information and prepare reports from various sources, including probationary data, criminal and arrest reports, DMV history, credit and financial records, warrant information, business financial information, medical records, agency documents, psychological materials, and law enforcement information; coordinate with other jurisdictions on case handling.
  • Research, identify, and select records and witnesses to be subpoenaed; obtain and execute warrants, subpoenas, summonses, and other legal processes; prepare and complete warrant packets.
  • Interview and prepare witnesses, suspects, and others to obtain information about a criminal, juvenile or child support case; locate missing witnesses, suspects, or parents; coordinate court appearances of witnesses, including arranging lodging and transportation; assist with safety and security.  
  • Monitor compliance for payment agreements, contempt orders, and probation; contact individuals regarding non-payment and review possible consequences.
  • Serve as liaison between work units and act as a representative with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS GUIDELINES:

Any combination of experience and training that would likely provide the required knowledge, skills, and abilities is qualifying. Requirements are determined at the time of recruitment based on responsibilities of the individual position and business needs of the department.

District Attorney Investigator

Training and experience for journey level, professional classifications are typically equivalent to a bachelor's degree and one (1) to four (4) years of experience that demonstrates the ability to perform the duties of the position. (Equivalency 5-8 years of qualifying training and/or experience).

Depending upon assignment, candidates may be required to pass a criminal background check, have a valid driver license, and /or additional training, licenses, or certificates.

REQUIRED TRAINING, LICENSES, AND/OR CERTIFICATES:

  • CPR and First Aid Certification is required.
