Job description

EXAMPLES OF DUTIES:

  • Assess individual and community needs for health education; develop, plan, and conduct health education strategies, interventions, and programs; plan and implement workshops, conferences, and trainings; arrange speakers, agendas, and schedules.
  • Develop, review, and evaluate course content, delivery techniques, materials, and equipment; identify and approve courses or education services and programs to be offered; screen and recommend instructors and materials; design, conduct, and implement improvements based on course evaluations.
  • Coordinate or conduct health education training courses or services with clients, community groups, and agencies throughout the community; deliver health education presentations covering health issues, such as communicable disease prevention, family planning, teen parenting, and sexually transmitted diseases.
  • Serve as a health education resource, advocate, and liaison with other jurisdictions and subcontractors in order to staff, organize, develop, and deliver training and health education programs; participate in program planning.
  • Collect, organize, and present information and training on best practices, policies, campaign resources, and socio-economic models pertaining to health education services and delivery.
  • Gather and analyze demographic and cultural information about target populations, such as social and health-related behavior, needs, interests, and obstacles to receiving appropriate care.
  • Promote health education and services through press releases, public service announcements, and advertising in newspapers, radio, TV, or media events such as health fairs or booths.
  • Collect and analyze data through survey techniques; develop evaluation tools to assess achievement of programs; maintain records of education programs; provide consultation to staff and community or outside agencies.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS GUIDELINES:

Any combination of experience and training that would likely provide the required knowledge, skills, and abilities is qualifying. Requirements are determined at the time of recruitment based on responsibilities of the individual position and business needs of the department.

Health Educator

Training and experience for journey level, professional classifications are typically equivalent to a bachelor's degree and one (1) to four (4) years of experience that demonstrates the ability to perform the duties of the position. (Equivalency 5-8 years of qualifying training and/or experience).

Depending upon assignment, candidates may be required to pass a criminal background check, have a valid driver license, and/or additional training, licenses, or certificates.
