Positions in this series research, design, configure, implement, monitor, secure, and manage complex enterprise network systems, voice communications, and cabling infrastructure to provide connectivity among users, devices, and applications county-wide.
EXAMPLES OF DUTIES:
- Analyze, evaluate, plan, recommend, design, and implement existing and new enterprise network systems, operation systems, and telecommunications infrastructure in support of county needs for enterprise network, telecommunication, and cabling system solutions and functions.
- Install, configure, and maintain distributed enterprise network and telephony systems including switches, routers, firewalls, wireless equipment, telephony servers, and gateways including physical cabling infrastructure; perform field operations relating to the installation, maintenance, and troubleshooting of network infrastructure.
- Monitor, diagnose, troubleshoot, and optimize network, telephony and cabling systems; utilize network traffic, routing, and system resources to ensure optimal performance and availability; monitor network and system capacity, provide repairs, and incident response.
- Consult with county departments to analyze and assess network, telephony, and infrastructure cabling needs and to implement focused solutions; collaborate with cross-functional teams, including servers, storage, security, application development, project managers, facilities, and vendors to ensure seamless network integration.
- Design, program, and build multi-department unified communication and contact center solutions according to industry and county standards, and coordinate procurement duties for acquisition of products and services.
- Create and maintain documentation of network configurations, diagrams, procedures, and inventories of systems and equipment; participate in audits.
- In addition to the above duties, the senior level will: Provide project management and direction; formulate scope and objectives and define outcomes; problem solve and build consensus with management, customers, and vendors to provide and obtain information; coordinate system installations with vendors and internal IT staff; manage vendor relationships and oversee vendor performance for network, telephony, and cabling platforms; design and implement secure cloud-based network architectures; design and execute automation of routine network and telephony tasks using scripting languages and tools to improve efficiency and consistency; design, install, and consult on network, telephony, and cabling needs for newly constructed or leased buildings; review and recommend capital planning strategies for all enterprise network, telephony, and cabling equipment; define equipment lifespan and replacement cycle to support budget planning; and plan and implement disaster recovery strategy for network and telephony resilience.

Network Administrator Senior
- Advanced level

- Perform the most difficult assignments requiring a higher level of responsibility, applying advanced subject knowledge, and exercising significant independent judgment and initiative.
- Receive work assignments in terms of objectives, priorities, and deadlines.
- Work is reviewed for technical accuracy, compliance to program objectives, and overall results.
- Receive direction from manager or staff.
- May exercise functional and technical supervision over staff.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS GUIDELINES:
Any combination of experience and training that would likely provide the required knowledge, skills, and abilities is qualifying. Requirements are determined at the time of recruitment based on responsibilities of the individual position and business needs of the department.
Network Administrator
Training and experience for journey level, professional classifications are typically equivalent to a bachelor's degree and one (1) to four (4) years of experience that demonstrates the ability to perform the duties of the position. (Equivalency 5-8 years of qualifying training and/or experience).
Network Administrator Senior
Training and experience for advanced level, professional classifications are typically equivalent to a bachelor's degree and three (3) to six (6) years of experience that demonstrates the ability to perform the duties of the position. (Equivalency 7-10 years of qualifying training and/or experience).
Depending upon assignment, candidates may be required to pass a criminal background check, have a valid driver license, and /or additional training, licenses, or certificates.
