EXAMPLE OF DUTIES:
- Provide professional, administrative, and technical support to elected officials; prepare various documents, including memorandums, correspondence, briefs, and reports; create and prepare exhibits and presentations for board meetings.
- Conduct analysis and recommend policy strategies; address gaps in current strategies; manage complex policy-related projects and issues; prepare talking points for elected officials on policy issues; support county management initiatives and services; coordinate projects and work assignments and act as liaison with county staff; monitor work initiatives; provide communication support to management and elected officials; develop communication strategies and plans; assess communication needs and relevant messages.
- Develop positions on legislative issues; attend hearings, meetings, and other events during legislative sessions; testifies before legislative committees; represent the county with legislators and staff, administration officials, and consultants; propose and write legislative amendments and resolutions.
- Provide expert guidance to departments, the general public, and/or outside agencies; represent the county and assigned program to the public, elected officials, other agencies, government jurisdictions, the news media, committees, and organizations; conduct community outreach; respond to citizens regarding questions, issues, concerns, including confidential and sensitive inquiries; investigate matters and recommend corrective actions as necessary; respond to formal requests for information.
- Coordinate and direct office management functions and activities, including preparing requests for supplies and equipment, developing and implementing office policies and procedures; maintaining and updating databases, and drafting and preparing documents; provide technical and functional supervision to staff.
- Plan, organize and supervise logistical arrangements for community outreach events; represent elected officials regarding projects with county management, the general public, and other jurisdictions and agencies.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS GUIDELINES:
Any combination of experience and training that would likely provide the required knowledge, skills, and abilities is qualifying. Requirements are determined at the time of recruitment based on responsibilities of the individual position and business needs of the department.
Staff Assistant
Training and experience for journey level, professional classifications are typically equivalent to a bachelor's degree and one (1) to four (4) years of experience that demonstrates the ability to perform the duties of the position. (Equivalency 5-8 years of qualifying training and/or experience).
Depending upon assignment, candidates may be required to pass a criminal background check, have a valid driver license, and/or additional training, licenses, or certificates.
