September 17, 2020

Multnomah County is closely following public health guidance to ensure the safety of everyone in corrections facilities. Corrections Health has notified the Multnomah County Sheriff’s Office that a Corrections Health employee has tested positive for COVID-19. Public health officials confirmed that the person had no contact with adults who are detained and that no additional action is needed at this time.

Officials say the person worked in an area where employees follow Health Department recommendations to reduce risk of transmission, including frequent cleaning of high-touch surfaces, social distancing and use of face covering. Additional details cannot be shared about the employee’s protected health information.

“As COVID-19 continues to be a concern in the community, we will continue to be diligent in our efforts to avoid potential exposure in the workplace. Our thoughts are with the employee and their family,”  said Dr. Michael Seale, Corrections Health Director.

“Since the onset of COVID-19, we, along with Corrections Health have taken significant measures to reduce the spread of the virus in corrections facilities,” Sheriff Mike Reese said. “This continues to be a challenging time, and I deeply appreciate everyone’s concern for this employee.’’
