County seeks input on two courthouse sites at Jan. 29 and Feb. 5 open houses

January 22, 2015

Multnomah County is seeking public input on two potential sites for a new downtown courthouse at two public house events.  Input from the open houses will be shared with county commissioners before they select a courthouse site this spring.  The events will also provide updated information on the downtown courthouse project.

The open houses are scheduled for:

  • Thursday, Jan. 29 from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. at the Multnomah Building, Boardroom, 501 SE Hawthorne Blvd., Portland
  • Thursday, Feb. 5 from 5:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. at the County Courthouse, Main Jury Room, Room 130, 1021 SW 4th Ave., Portland

Both events will have a drop-in format with identical information displays staffed by members of the project team.  Displays will include information on:

  • Attributes of the preferred site (Hawthorne West Bridgehead) and the alternate site (Block 128 parking lot east of KOIN Tower)
  • Histories of the two sites
  • Project need and goals
  • Concept visuals for each site
  • Project timeline and funding
  • Project area map with parking, transit and bicycle routes

County commissioners selected the preferred and alternate site in December 2014 after an extensive process to determine best sites in the downtown core, including the inner eastside.

Open house attendees will be able to share comments and questions with members of the project team.   County commissioners will consider input from the open houses as well as an online survey that will be offered in February.

The Multnomah Building is served by TriMet bus lines 4, 6, 10, and 14 and by the Portland Streetcar.   The Courthouse is on the downtown transit mall and served by many bus and MAX lines.

Attendees with special needs such as translation assistance should call 503-209-4111 at least 48 hours in advance.  For project information, visit /central-courthouse.  The open house information displays will be posted to the project website after the first open house.
