Earthquake Ready Burnside Bridge project down to two groups of options for further evaluation

March 15, 2018

Multnomah County is evaluating options for a Burnside river crossing that will withstand a major earthquake. The county has been talking with community members and a team of experts to better understand what should be considered. To date, the project has considered over 100 Burnside crossing options. After two rounds of screening, the list has been narrowed down to two groups that represent over 20 remaining options for further evaluation: Enhanced Seismic Retrofit and Replacement.

To learn more about what has been considered, how options will continue to be evaluated, and to weigh in, check out the Online Briefing.

The Earthquake Ready Burnside Bridge project is examining options to create a resilient lifeline crossing over the Willamette River in the event of a major earthquake. Providing a way to get across the Willamette River after an earthquake will be critical for emergency response, reuniting families, and helping our community recover.
