Food should be discarded if you've been in Portland's power outage

May 23, 2017

If your home or restaurant facility is in the area of downtown Portland that has had no power since last night, the facility should be closed and all perishable refrigerated foods should be discarded.

The rule regarding power outages is:  if you have had no power for four hours, all your 'refrigerated' potentially hazardous foods should be discarded immediately.

Your freezer should hold temperature for approximately 48 hours. Keep the door closed. When you do have power again, you can check the temperatures of the food in the freezer. If any food is above 41F it must be discarded.
