PublicAlerts.org allows residents of the Portland metro region, including Clackamas, Clark, Columbia, Multnomah, and Washington counties, to sign up for notifications about emergencies near their home, school or workplace. During the PyeongChang Winter Olympics this month, KGW TV will run a series of public service ads encouraging local residents to sign up for emergency alerts.
PublicAlerts was used to send out alerts during last year’s Eagle Creek Fire. The system uses phone, email and text messages to contact residents in any emergency, so you can receive alerts on your mobile device wherever you are.
Local emergency managers hope the message gets out to Olympics viewers that signing up for alerts is an easy way for residents to stay informed and safe.

Most landline phone users are already in the emergency alert system. Cellular phone users who wish to receive notifications must register their numbers with PublicAlerts.
Portland and Multnomah County residents can sign up to receive alerts in 10 languages other than English, including Spanish, Russian, Vietnamese, Chinese, Russian, Somali, Romanian, Ukrainian, Japanese, Arabic, and Laotian.
