The Morrison Bridge will be closed to all users from 8 pm on Thursday, April 13 until 5 am on Friday, April 14 during work on the east leaf of the drawbridge.  The work will require the east leaf to be raised all night while contractor Hamilton Construction installs temporary parts needed for the replacement of the lift span’s deck.

The closure will impact motor vehicles, bicyclists and pedestrians.

Ramps between the bridge and Interstate 5 and Interstate 84 will be closed, except for the ramp from the Morrison Bridge westbound to I-5 north.  While the I-5 southbound City Center/Morrison Bridge off-ramp (exit 300) will be closed, the I-5 southbound ramp to Highway 99E/U.S. 26 will remain open. Motorists can access I-84 eastbound at NE Grand Avenue and NE Everett Street.

To access downtown Portland from the freeways during the closure, I-5 southbound drivers can exit at the Rose Quarter/Broadway Bridge and I-84 westbound drivers can exit at Rose Quarter/Weidler exits.

During the closure Hamilton Construction will replace the steel bearings that support the east leaf in the down position.  The drawbridge needs to be open to replace these parts. Heavy duty temporary bearings (called live load shoes) are needed while the contractor installs the new east leaf deck, which will be heavier than the existing deck.

The Morrison Bridge lift span deck will be replaced by the end of October 2017.  Multnomah County maintains the Morrison Bridge and five other Willamette River bridges. For more information, visit /bridges or follow @MultcoBridges on Twitter.
