News release: Medical Examiner releases Patrick J. Kimmons’ records

October 31, 2018

The Multnomah County Medical Examiner today released the records of Patrick J. Kimmons, who died Sept. 30, 2018 in Portland in an officer-involved shooting.

The Medical Examiner releases records that are defined by the Oregon State Police Medical Examiner as being in the public interest such as homicides, officer-involved shootings, in-custody deaths, and significant communicable disease (other than the flu).

On Wednesday, Oct. 31, 2018, a Portland grand jury declared the officers’ use of force was an act of self defense. The investigation is no longer active.

Oregon law requires the Multnomah County Medical Examiner’s Office to investigate and determine the cause and manner of deaths in sudden, unexpected, violent or suspicious deaths that occur in Multnomah County. The Office releases records on cases determined to be in the public interest after an investigation is concluded and legal proceedings complete.

Mr. Kimmon’s autopsy report has been redacted to remove personal health information.
