On Monday, Nov. 10, Multnomah County Commissioners Diane McKeel and Jules Bailey, Portland Mayor Charlie Hales, VA Portland Health Care System Director Joanne M. Krumberger and others gathered at Portland City Hall to award landlords who have made secure housing for homeless veterans in our area a reality.
The event, called “Homes for Heroes,” recognized REACH Community Development and Income Property Management for their respective roles in helping to find housing for local veterans.
The “Home for Heroes” event also celebrated the partnership between Multnomah County, the City of Portland, the VA and Home Forward, as they joined forces to participate in the 25 Cities Initiative, a national movement to intensify local efforts to end veterans’ homelessness. The group set a goal for itself to house 100 veterans by Veterans Day. They exceeded their goal, finding housing for 139 veterans.
The group’s next goal? To ending all homelessness for chronically homeless disabled veterans throughout Multnomah County by the end of 2015.
