NEWS RELEASE: Burnside Bridge reopens to road traffic after mechanical issue forces temporary closure; river traffic remains closed

UPDATE 7:30 P.M.: After maintenance crews were able to deploy a temporary fix, road traffic has reopened on the Burnside Bridge. River traffic under the Bridge will remain closed while crews continue their work.

Multnomah County, Ore. (Feb. 5, 2026) — TRAFFIC ALERT: On Thursday afternoon, Feb. 5, Multnomah County’s Transportation Division announced an immediate closure of the Burnside Bridge after a mechanical issue emerged with the Bridge’s span locks after the completion of a lift.

Maintenance crews are on the Bridge now working on a temporary fix. There is currently no firm timeline for when the Bridge will reopen. Multnomah County will provide updates when they are available.

Please use caution while commuting in the vicinity of the Bridge, and use alternate routes.
