TIME CHANGED: Broadway Bridge south sidewalk to close overnight

TRAFFIC ALERT: The closure time for the Broadway Bridge south sidewalk on Wednesday, Oct. 22 will now start at 10:30 p.m. to accommodate fans walking to and from the Portland Trail Blazers game. The south sidewalk will be closed until 5:00 a.m. Thursday, Oct. 23.

Crews will be installing a metal deck for crews to walk on under the bridge scaffolding system. The contractor will need to have the bridge lift span fully open. As a reminder, the Broadway Bridge is already closed to all cars, trucks, buses and the Portland Streetcar for the next six months to replace the bridge deck. The south sidewalk will remain open throughout the majority of this closure.

This work is part of the Broadway Bridge Lift Deck Replacement Project. A contractor will be replacing the bridge deck – that’s the surface you drive on, of the movable section of the bridge. In order to do the work, the contractor will remove small sections of the bridge deck, one at a time, to ensure that the movable bridge sections remain carefully balanced and can be opened to river traffic as required by law. New streetcar tracks will also be installed in the section of the bridge deck being replaced. For information, visit: https://multco.us/info/broadway-bridge-lift-deck-replacement.

Multnomah County maintains five Willamette River bridges: the Sellwood, Hawthorne, Morrison, Burnside and Broadway Bridges as well as the Wapato Bridge over the Multnomah Channel. For information, visit https://www.multco.us/bridges.
